Chickens In Freak Cold Weather

Quick walk through at Chickendale and how we did through the freak cold weather. They did pretty well. We have some frostbite, and I lost 1 hen after. But I don’t think it had anything to do with the cold front.

One thing that did really help with watering them is we had plenty of snow they could eat. I think it would have been worse if we didn’t.

Okay. We just had Siberia can visit for almost a week. And you can see right there, I got three bales of hay left. But I went ahead and I bought six bales of hay. And if you look in the Appenzellers, you can see where I put hay all in there. You can see right there.

You can see over here with these guys. And then I showed a bunch of hay inside here. Well, a little f*ckers, they keep kicking it out, but I put a bunch of hay. Here, I’ll go show you one of my other coops, actually. Let’s go look at the baby’s coop. See, my babies are all in good shape.

I didn’t lose any babies. In fact, I only lost one, and that was a Houdan hen. And that was just yesterday. And the storm was last week. So this is what I do for my babies. And mainly I just shut the door and you can see the water pans because we were not prepared for Siberia. So one of my goals this summer is to go ahead and get there’s my new dog, Pebbles.

Pebbles. No, no. But. And you can see in there I just put that straw as thick as I could possibly get it. If you look at my roosters, I just notice that’s one thing that did happen. There’s my babies, baby, baby. Go back boys, Smokey. Okay, now something I just noticed on my roosters. If you look at my roosters and I don’t know if this will get better or not, but if you look at my roosters, hold still ding dong, they’re all of my roosters have that blueing on them on their jowls.

Any of them. I have jowls. Hey. Hey baby, see so that was another thing that happened. I lost of course one of my Houdans, which I don’t know what the hell happened because it had warmed up and she just killed over dead. I came in to check on her and she was standing there and I picked her up. And you can see these guys, well, they’re pretty tense, but I picked her up and there was no ducking.

There’s my other boy can see his marks, but there was no ducking, no trying to get away from me, nothing. And I’m like 5 minutes later I come back in and she was seizing and then she died. So. Okay, let’s go look at some of the others. There goes Flash Gordon. I don’t know if you all saw that. There he goes. Pebbles, right behind him. She’s trying to figure out her place. We’ve literally had her for two days, but you can see how thick I put the straw in here. And believe me, the night the storm was coming in, my dumb butt was out here trying to throw out straw so my chickens wouldn’t freeze. You can see all my babies.

Finally yesterday, all my waterers froze out. All my waterers defrosted. So a little suggestion, if Siberia comes to visit, you might want to pull your buckets in. And then here’s all these guys. You can see all the hay. He’s trying to flirt. He’s trying to flirt with his momma, but you can see all the hay.

And if you look, hey Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla? I don’t know if you can see it or not. Here, let me. I don’t do scoping in really well. Move guys, move, move, move. Godzilla. Stop. Godzilla. But you can see on the top of Godzilla’s I just noticed today and believe it or not, that girl back there, that is powder.

That is my baby that I grew up. But everybody did pretty good. The only loss I had was that Houdan, and I’m not sure what was up with her. So I just thought I’d let you guys know. And my coops, as you can see, they stayed pretty warm. So I thought I’d let you guys know how we did through the winter, or through the Siberia, and everybody else did just as good.

Now, it did break. There’s Pebbles. It did break a couple of my broody hens. There’s my other two. There’s Shiloh and Foxy, which Foxy belongs my son. But I did it in here, too. I put hay all through here. I mean, that straw is probably. It’s thick. Really, Really. Oh, you sound like a dinosaur, dude. So I just thought I’d give everybody an update.

I showed how the coops looked when it was really cold, but I thought I’d like, you know, I didn’t lose a chick. I didn’t lose nothing. So I don’t want to go through it again. But we’re going to try and pick up some of those rubber watering tubs over the summer. That way I can just beat them out.

So there’s all my babies. Oh, and by the way, those. I bought these right here, these numbers. I’m never going to buy these again, ever. So because you can see where they’re at. All right. Have a great day. Oh, the reason I’m out here is somehow during two days ago, I lost my car keys and I still haven’t found them. I was here taking care of these guys who Dyna Butt is getting his a*s kicked.
